1924 Vega Tubaphone Style M Tenor Banjo Used
This Vega Style M Tubaphone tenor banjo was made in 1924 and it’s in excellent structural and cosmetic condition. It has a 17-fret neck, a short 20 7/8″ string scale and an 11 13/16” head, features that make it less desirable for jazz players, who prefer the longer 19-fet neck and 11” pot, but it’s a set-up that works extremely well for the Irish tenor banjo technique with its lower tuning. The combination of the large diameter shell, and an old skinhead, gives this short-neck tenor a wonderful meaty tone with lots of bottom end. The neck is very straight and the short string scale makes this easy to play. It’s fitted with a resonator that was made later than the neck and shell, and for a lower model, but it is an original Vega part and it works well. It still has its original friction tuning pages with ivoroid buttons. The tailpiece is missing the hinged cover. Original hardshell case, too.
